Our projects for 2010

In 2010, Moni Malawi will run our own projects, although we hope that our fundraising efforts will enable us to continue to give donations to other charities also. Our main projects for 2010 are:

Project 1
Build a school in Kambudzi which will consist of 2 blocks each with 2 classrooms. The construction costs are estimated to be £40,000. This school will replace the existing ‘school’ which is held under six trees! Scott McMillan (Chairman of Moni Malawi) visited Malawi in January 2010 to finalise plans, with a view to building work commencing by the Spring. Once the school is open we hope to encourage attendance by feeding the children at the school, therefore being less mouths to feed at home.

Project 2
Support a feeding station in Melila that will feed hundreds of children 3 times a week. This will cost us £100 per month, initially for a year (£1,200). The money will principally be used to buy food as the women of the village and volunteers provide the necessary labour.

Project 3

Support a nursery in Likuni that has 35 children under the age of 5. This will cost us £50 per month, initially for a year (£600), and includes the cost of food and a nursery teacher for 4 hours a day, 5 days a week.

As you can see, our target for fundraising this year is about £50,000 – nothing like challenging ourselves!
