Bougherra: I'm not a right backPDFPrintE-mail

Madjid Bougherra was interviewed today for the Rangers website and was drawn to pass comment on the gaffer deploying him in the unfamiliar position of right back. It is oft stated that the Algerian regularly plays at right back for his country, however Bougherra today insisted that this isn't the case at all.

"People think I play right-back for Algeria but I actually play on the right side of a three-man defence."

"The position I played today was completely different but it was the coach's decision to play me there. If he tells me that's where he wants me, that's what I will do. It is not my position so it was quite a new experience for me."

It's encouraging to read that the defender is willing to play wherever the gaffer wants him to play, something that reinforces the respect that he has for what Walter has done for his career since taking him to Rangers from Charlton.

Bougherra was happy with the display against Premiership side Blackburn in Sydney and was pleased to get his season off to a winning start after his time in South Africa with the Algerian national side.

"It was good for us to win because we were playing against a Premier League team and I think we did well."

Talking about the future at Rangers, Bougherra was insistent that travelling the massive distance to Australia for a pre-season friendly was worthwhile as it is good to play against teams with different styles.

"It is good for us to be playing such different sides because it will help us to get ready for the Champions League. I think it is beneficial for us to go away to a place such as this and play different sorts of teams because it gives us a platform for the future."

Whether that platform for the future of Rangers is also the same future as Bougherra's, only time will tell. With several German clubs circling for his services, it might only be a matter of time before bids are being submitted for arguably Rangers most saleable asset.
