There was good news from the training ground today as the quiet man of Ibrox, Sasa Papac, returned to training after missing the second half of the game against Falkirk eight days ago and the cup game against St Mirren on Saturday.
A knee injury has been to blame and he has been feeling it for the last few weeks only for it to get too bad against Falkirk and need some treatment.
Following training today, Smith was hopeful that Sasa would return to his left back berth for Wednesdays trip to Motherwell. he also had some good news regarding the American duo of Beasley and Edu;
"We're hopeful Sasa will be fit for the trip to Fir Park. he doesn't miss many games and we're keen to get him back."
"He has missed the last couple of matches but he was out with the rest of the players today along with DaMarcus Beasley and Maurice Edu"
He continued, "As long as there is no reaction to him training, he should be able to return to the team in midweek".
The injury crisis that has led to the squad being stretched in recent weeks seems to be lifting with Boyd and Miller returning to playing at the weekend albeit from the bench. Something that was not lost on Smith;
"What we've got to remember is that there are a few in the group who have missed a lot of football. It will take time to settle back in. Kenny has missed the least games so he isn't a big problem but we still have to take a bit of care with him."
