Pregame Analysis: Kilmarnock vs. Rangers

E-mail Print PDF

Rangers are top of the SPL with 64 points from 27 games and have a goal difference of +46 goals. Celtic are trailing in 2nd place with 54 points from 28 games and have a goal difference of +24 goals.

This is undoubtedly a great position to be in. Nevertheless there are still a good few games to play and we must win each one. If we do so we can wrap up the championship in record time while at the same time piling pressure on Celtic.

This will be a difficult game. We must respect Kilmarnock. They beat Celtic a few weeks ago when Robbie Keane made his much awaited debut. They played real hard football and put Celtic back on their heels. They will try and do the same to us. Their management team made life very difficult indeed for Rangers when they were ensconced at Pittodrie. The will be trying desperately hard to take another scalp - ours - come Tuesday evening.

Walter may have a full squad to choose from. Bougherra and Thomson I believe are the only doubts. Both have ready made replacements in Wilson and Edu if they fail to pass fitness tests.

I believe the team will be very similar to the one that started against St. Mirren. There may be a couple of changes with Bougherra coming back and maybe Edu starting, or even Lafferty making an appearance, but that would be about it.

My guess is Walter will play: McGregor, Whittaker, Bougherra/Wilson, Weir, Papac, Davis, McCulloch, Edu/Thomson, Beasley, Miller and Boyd.

Walter should also tell them to start the game at a fast tempo and keep it going for 90+ minutes.

I think the players well know the importance of each SPL game now and will be up for the fight. A chance to go 13 points ahead of Celtic should be grasped with open arms. A tough battle and for me we win by 2 goals.

Kilmarnock 0-2 Rangers.

This is the crucial part of the march to SPL glory and we must maintain our winning ways. This we will do.
