The agent of Yohan Benalouane today confirmed that his client would love a move to Rangers and that if he had to wait until the end of next season to move on a free transfer then he would.
"Yohan is open to the idea of moving to Britain but right now the maket is quiet in Scotland and England so we may have to be patient. But if we have to wait, we will."
Former French under 21 star Yohan Benalouane is on the radar of Rangers gaffer Walter Smith. The manager confirmed just a matter of days ago that the defender is someone being considered on his list of targets after being brought to his attention recently.
The St Etienne player is believed to be valued at around £2.5 million and is also being chased by Newcastle, West Ham and Sevilla.
French Tunisian Benalouane is a centre half who played almost all of last season for the French club, including their jaunt in the Europa Cup - something that might have whetted his appetite for Champions League football this season.
It is rumoured in the French press that he has already indicated his desire to move to England or a Scottish team in the Champions League in order to enhance his chance at playing International football - particularly since the French national team slate has been wiped clean with new manager Laurant Blanc taking the healm and the current first team being suspended.
His agent confirmed that there has been contact between majority shareholder David Murray and himself over a potential deal.
"I have spoken to David Murray in the past few days to try and establish wheteher Rangers have ainterest in Yohan. Only once we establish that we can move on."
