Motherwell 0 Rangers 0

Rangers under 16′s were held in an entertaining goalless draw at Dalziel Park tonight. It was a continuation of midweek friendlies to provide game time for first year under 17′s and an opportunity to promote some of the under 15′s.

It was the home side that had the better of the early exchanges and in the fifth minute Sam George had to dive to his left to save a 25 yard effort from the Motherwell midfielder. He surpassed that a minute later when Greg Pascazio missed a long ball it left the home striker in the clear, but Sam George came off his line to make a fine save with his leg.

A couple of minutes later and Rangers created their first opportunity, Charlie Telfer and Paul Kane combined on the right and when the later cut the ball back the home keeper dived to his left to save Telfer’s shot. Motherwell again came close on ten minutes, a break down the left saw a great challenge from Darren McGill to clear when the cross came in, but the ball broke to the edge of the box an the Motherwell player shot wide.

It was the visitors that threatened first when Conor McGrandles broke down the left, cut inside and Wayne Drummond saved. On nine minutes Nicky Main won the ball at the edge of the Falkirk box, passed to Anthony Marenghi who in turn passed to Dylan McGeough and the midfielder tested keeper Graham Bowman from around 25 yards.

A Kane Hemmings double was enough to secure the points at Kilwinning Sports Club this morning. In a game that Rangers were in control once they had taken the lead, they had to survive an injury time scare to hold on for the win.

The windy conditions made it difficult for both teams and there was little goalmouth action in the early period of the first-half. It was midway through the half before either defence was tested, Kal Naismith went past two defenders on the right and his cross broke to Kane Hemmings but the Killie defence blocked out his attempt.

A minute later and the big striker should have put Rangers ahead, Christiano Kisuka played the ball inside to Dylan McGeough and his lob sent Hemmings clear, he looked certain to score but miss hit his shot and it bounced wide.
