It's valid today as well. The example of how Murray used the press is just that, an example. I absolutely agree with challenging the lies etc. but you have to find a way to tap into it also and get your positive spin out there.

Keep your enemies close... The one thing Murray (David) did well was to get the media on his side. Problem is, you make an enemy of them and, well, this is the result.

Banning anyone from speaking to media outlets will have no effect at all imo, in fact it might just aggravate and make things worse. They've proved already that they'll just make things up!

I've noticed that every time there's a negative story regarding us the BBC wheel him out to report on it...I can only assume that to be their giruy to us because he's banned. It's funny but quite sad.

The manager did speak to his last manager (Sean Dyche) and also to the player himself several times and was convinced by him. Dyche is a apparently a close friend of Warburton and I'm sure he trusted his judgement when they spoke about Barton... "I assured Warbo and said that Joey was excellent for us. He was good round the group, he bought into Burnley and the culture of the club and he delivered on the pitch. Whatever anyone has to say about Joey, nobody can question his performances for us last year. He was excellent. “I think it was a really good year for many reasons, it was good for us but it was good for him as well. He was great for us on the pitch, but it was good for him because people said ‘you know what, he is a serious professional and a very good player’. There are bits and bobs in his life that are spoken about and he is thought of different, but last season I think he did a lot for himself as well. He is a serious player, he was very effective, and forgetting all the rest of it, he is a very good footballer. He certainly delivered for us.” The character was historically suspect but it seemed, from speaking to the player himself and his most recent manager, that he'd "grown up". The value then was apparently obvious, we were getting a player that was a winner, a leader and had a wealth of experience at the top levels. It sounded like he'd be good for the dressing room... Even with the right research nobody gets every decision right, Unfortunately his demons resurfaced.

My opinion is this is being handled in pretty much the only way it can be. i.e. employee misdemeanour results in breach of discipline, club initiate immediate removal from workplace pending internal "hearing". Hearing results in next stage, i.e. suspension pending further investigation. Following from that, there will be some sort of resolution; it may be an agreement on terminating the contract, employee may be sacked because the breach is serious enough to warrant it....or it might even result in employee returning to full employment. Seems to me all legit, above board and the club conducting the business in private i.e. properly. What the employee does is another matter. If you don't want to do that, you could always allow an employee to undermine the employer and then all hell breaks loose. Like the rest of us, you don't know exactly what happened, what's written into Barton's contract and or fully conversant with employment law, so I'd go with due process for now. The press will be the press.
